Hobbyhorses have enjoyed continued popularity through generations, finally becoming a popular young adult trend without a single tv ad. Yet hobbyhorses have been known to exist at least since the Middle Ages, and in recent years their popularity has exploded --and not just as a children's toy, but as a hobby for all ages! Hobbyhorsing has grown into an organized sport and a hobby within a decade. An entire world of hobbyhorsing is run by the enthusiasts (most of them teenage girls, but all ages and genders are involved), including competitions, training camps, shows and coaching for those who aim for the annual hobbyhorse championships held by the Finnish Hobbyhorse Association. Even though hobbyhorse riding can be competetive, the hobby itself is free-form and accepting of all ways to enjoy hobbyhorses. Some hobbyists are less interested in riding and concentrate more on photography, showing, collecting and making hobbyhorses, or creating Youtube videos.
Even though the media has portrayed hobbyhorsing as a Finnish fad, it is an established hobby that's just lately started to gain enough momentum to be noticed, and it's not just Finland where it's all happening. Hobbyhorsing has gained a following all across the world, and its popularity is still on the rise. Hobbyhorsing is here to stay!
Eponi hobbyhorses are made from quality materials to ensure durability. Unlike many hobbyhorse makers, I do not use fleece fabric which will pile in use. All horses are delivered ready to use, stuffed and with the stick attached. The stick can be removed if necessary. All hobbyhorses are sewn with a sewing machine and built to last. The sticks have a non-toxic varnish/wax finish and fabric dyes are safe, but colors might fade in use. Sizes of the horse heads vary, fitting a A4 to A3 standard paper sheets. Tack is not included unless specified.
Eponi hobbyhorses are artist crafts made for hobbyists and collectors, they are not toys. Even though they are made for active use, they include long manes, buckles and other parts that present a choking hazard, and should be kept away from pets and small children.
I currently ship to 18 countries outside Finland. The shipping costs are 15€ to Sweden, Germany, Estonia, Denmark, Latvia, and Lithuania. Shipping is 20€ to Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Hungary, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Slovakia, Portugal, and Bulgaria.
New hobbyhorses are made each week, but unfortunately due to demand new releases are usually sold within 24 hours, many even within minutes. The best way to ensure getting your own horse is to follow the official Eponi Instagram account at https://www.instagram.com/eponi.hobbyhorses/ and turn on post notifications. Announcements of new releases come out the moment they come on sale. Unfortunately I cannot make reservations or send sale notices individually, as there are several people looking forward to getting their own horse. It's first come, first served!
Eponi began as a craft project between me and my Goddaughter, and eventually grew into a home business! Eponi is a registered, tax-paying company without ambitions to compete with multinational toy corporations and their sweatshops. Each Eponi hobbyhorse is handmade and unique, and come with a name and a register number on the stick.
